I want to change the default "unity" to "lxde" in my ubuntu 12.04. My doubt is will "lxde" receive same long term support as 12.04? I want to use the command: sudo apt-get install lxde for installation.

Is there any known instance of lxde creating problem when used with ubuntu 12.04? In case I find later that unity was better, can I revert back to it from lxde? How to do that?

You should have no issues with lxde. If you want to revert back, there are commands to do so. You also can log into the preferred session at login.
