I don't really change my desktop, unlike you guys, whose desktops change like within an hour (and still stays awesome :D) so here's my desktop from September:

* Theme: elementary at day, elementary dark at night.
* Icon theme: Faenza at day, Awoken at night.
* Wallpaper: Dawn of Ubuntu (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=784881), which comes in 4 (5 if you count the user-submitted Sunset pic) pictures that changes with the time of day.

No ppa that I am aware of, but you can use a script to handle the installation for you.

Do

sudo apt-get install build-essential cmake libxrender-dev libx11-dev git kdelibs5-dev kdebase-workspace-dev

Then save scrpt from here (http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/?content=127752) in a directory and run with

sudo perl oxygen-setup.pl

Simple XFCE. No frills, other than a nice glossy black theme, which is fairly standard -- but not shown. Sorry.

Many, many years ago, a few months before Mrs QIII and I got married, we went to the Engineer Officers' Ball at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

A friend took a snapshot of us cutting a rug.

The wallpaper is that snapshot, with the background replaced by the sort of backdrop you might see in a photo studio.

Mrs QIII is just as beautiful. I, on the other hand, have not faired so well over the decades.

My first new screenshots of the month. And, it's of another LiveUSB test run.

Full-size screenshots here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/Screenshots/ScreenshotKubuQuantal1a.jpg

Of course I'm going to run KDE since it's my primary DE, so I'm test driving the Kubuntu beta this time on a persistent LiveUSB. And just for test drive's sake, I'm sticking with the default Windows-like interface for this test run. The wallpapers of my favorite car, as usual, are ones I put together myself. I personally like the left wallpaper with its background effect. As for the Plasma, Window, and color themes, I chose them to fit the SRT Viper theme, which means I had to look for them. Sure, I was able to find them from "Get More Themes", but it still takes some searching for good red KDE themes.

Overall, despite being a Beta and a LiveUSB session, this version of Kubuntu is running really well. So well, in fact, that I may take an unprecedented (by me, at least) plunge and upgrade to Quantal before its official release as soon as my new graphics card comes in.

Computer: Desktop
Distro: Kubuntu 12.10 Beta 2 64-bit
Desktop Environment: KDE Plasma 4.9.1
Plasma Theme: Ruby Air (from KDE-Look)
Window Theme: Corindon Red (from openDesktop.org)
Color Scheme: Viper Red (modified from default Oxygen)
Left Wallpaper: custom-made SRT Viper panels (16: 9 version)
Right Wallpaper: custom-made SRT Viper collage (16:10 version)
Icons: Oxygen (default)

Well, after a complete hard-drive format and reinstall due to Compiz issues (it suddenly stopped being able to find something called UnityShell) along with other various annoyances, this is my new desktop, and this is how it's going to stay for the foreseeable future.

I'm just over losing too much of my life trying to get whizz-bang effects and stuff like that going; i just want usable stability, thanks :)

I'm not bitter, i still love Ubuntu, but i really have an attitude of "If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it!" these days.

Details bra, details bra!!

This is Ubuntu 11.04.

The theme is Lion GTK from DG09 (dg09.deviantart.com) .. I've changed up the theme from it's default a bit and customized the Emerald some more.

1st Wallpaper is from the Amana suite, also available on DA (just search 'amana wallpaper suite') and the 2nd wall is a very old one actually, I've had it since 2007 or so :p

Ever see the movie, "Babe"?

I watched it about 10 times before I realized they were having a cook-out (BBQ) on Christmas night... and shooting off fireworks.

I finally realized Christmas in New Zealand (where Babe was filmed) is in the middle of summer.

Weird, huh? It's all seasons of the year, and all times of the day and night, at this very moment... as I'm typing this post... and, as you're reading it. ;)

It's windows 7 using putty to ssh to my linux server so I can, in theory, monitor the system. In reality, I use it more for staying connected to irc and bothering my friends on our minecraft server. No hocus pocus, just a little geekery in action.

Love your Unity screenshots with your custom conky as always, VinDSL. And speaking of car-based themes, KiwiNZ......

Full-size screenshots here:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/Screenshots/ScreenshotUbuKDE11.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/Screenshots/ScreenshotUbuKDE11rosa.jpg

As much as I loved my previous Hatsune Miku setup, it was time for a little change, especially after installing a powerful NVidia graphics card and going through trouble getting it to work with Linux (stupid nouveau drivers). I went with a Cadillac theme this time, specifically the upcoming Cadillac ELR extended-range electric vehicle (similar hybrid technology found in the Chevrolet Volt) And I changed the Oxygencolors icon theme, File Manager, and Ubuntu logo icons accordingly.

The wallpapers are ones I made myself, using some stock images of course. The text in the wallpapers are snippets of lyrics from a couple techno songs... only because they're fitting to the car.

I also made a change to my app launcher. Instead of the Takeoff Launcher, I'm experimenting with the ROSA Launcher, as shown in the second screenshot, which I can activate from Docky just like I had done with my Takeoff Launcher, just like I had done in GNOME Shell to activate GNOME Activities. This post (here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11823588&postcount=67)) illustrates how I accomplish it. This post (post here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=12070341&postcount=39)) also goes in depth.

Overall, I'm still sticking with KDE, and keeping the Mac OS X style interface. I do plan on upgrading to Quantal when it's released, though I may decide to go with Kubuntu this time instead of Ubuntu. And best of all... although I had to temporarily add nomodeset in GRUB to boot it, and add the proprietary NVidia drivers, Ubuntu's working for me again. Just gotta do it all over again when I upgrade to Quantal.

I did it probably the same way you did... take an existing splash theme (whether built-in or downloaded), and changed the coding, backgrounds, translucent rectangle, and other elements accordingly. However, I also had to add more resolutions of the same image so it'd work with my dual displays.

I am going to have to make another custom KDE Splash once I upgrade to Quantal, since I'm planning on making a switch to Kubuntu... at least for this 6-month cycle. Nothing against Ubuntu at all... I still love it, it's still my favorite. But I've been using KDE quite a bit as my primary DE, so why not go with the KDE-based Ubuntu? :D

It doesn't have a back shadow on VLC for me either.. Also im using Kwin, not compiz. I might assume that the VLC skin would need to implement the shadow, as VLC does have a shadow, when using no skin (system theme/style).

I like it, isn't so nice how just by carrying the same backdrop, and letting the splash' fade through the boot- just looks so clean and professional? :D That how i get experience to make my "themes" is to edit existing themes, or system files. I've not been editing much with KDE4 for long- but some point, i might be able to tackle on a full from scratch theme.

~Cool!

I looked at that wall, and knew it would work on my rig... :D

I'm going to use it to showcase the spacing, which I intro'ed into the current time.

Seemed fitting... two lava vents (or whatever) with perfect, natural, separation.

Never could figure out how to do proper spacing in a time call, until I looked at that wall, then it magically came to me.

##################################
## TIME ##
##################################
${voffset 6}${font DroidSans:bold:size=8}${color4}TIME${offset 8}${color6}${voffset -2}${hr 1}${font}
${voffset -5}${font RadioSpace:size=32}${color3}${if_match ${time %l}<=9}${alignc 7}${time %l:%M}${offset 3}${time %p}${else}${if_match ${time %l}>=10}${alignc -1}${time %l:%M}${offset 3}${time %p}${endif}${endif}${font}

Thanks mate :D

Actually, the only reason I'm not keeping some translucency is because of my choice of the top menu bar background.. it's metallic.. translucency won't look good on it I think. Plus, the metallic texture of the bar goes well with the rest of the GUI :D

So, I've seen quite a few nice customized/modified unity setups here and I was wondering if anybody in their infinite knowledge could help me out here. :)

Does anybody know how to get rid of this terrible drop shadow between the launcher and panel? It's driving my OCD crazy!!:P I know how to remove the shadow from just the panel by erasing the gradient from the file in usr/share/unity/5 using gimp, which obviously gets rid of the panel shadow but doesn't git rid of the shadow between the panel and launcher. I have been poking around in usr/share/unity/5 and usr/share/unity/themes for almost an hour and I can't seem to locate the image that coincides with that shadow. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Here's Puppy running on my Armada 1592DT. Full 92mb of ram! Early mobile processor, needless to say she isn't a speed demon, but it runs fine for the odd task I require it to do like browsing forums etc. 12 total processes around 11-13mb/10% usage idle, USB ethernet. The black line along the left is my Dock (hidden).

Battery doesn't last very long any more lol! Hope you guys enjoyed my old girl.

If you get to know it a bit, pup is just great. Working on precise lately. It'll probably become my main os. Meantime, 5.2.5 on the dino. (compaq evo, single core, 256Mb ram ), tint2, openbox, lxappearance, nitrogen........Don't like jwm and some other default apps.

I just did a quick search, and this tutorial looks accurate:

http://macpup.org/forums/index.php/topic,7.0.html

I run Macpup Opera 2.0 (http://macpup.org/opera2.php) on my doorstop computer:

Ancient e-Machine tower circa 1999
192MB RAM (not a typo)
Celeron 667MHz (actually 666MHz - it's a marketing thing)
5GB HD
Onboard Intel graphics, et cetera

I must have installed 20 distros on this doorstop.

Macpup Opera 2.0 was the only distro that would boot from the HDD.

Works great, and it's relatively pretty, all things considered...

You should be able to install any pup.? Run the iso live. First.open gparted, create your partition. THEN go to the universall installer. Once the system is installed, go to the grubmanager and.install into mbr.Plenty of stuff on youtube

Its as buggy as Ubuntu 12.10 :)

If you only have a bit of data available I would wait until I update the kernel.

There are a few bugs with the current kernel with Plymouth and Nvidia and ATI drivers.

http://askubuntu.com/questions/202574/desktop-does-not-show-when-i-installed-nvidia-drivers

http://www.ubuntuvibes.com/2012/10/how-to-install-amd-catalyst-legacy.html

I have tested the 3.6.2 Kernel (http://www.ubuntubuzz.com/2012/10/linux-kernel-362-has-been-release.html) and it seems to fix most of the issues.

Ubuntu 12.10 is iffy at best in VirtualBox. Probably due to the above mentioned bugs. Hardware Acceleration does not work in any of the 12.10 'buntus in VirtualBox. Again, see above.
