I upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04.1 and notice several strange features. A few had been discussed and some need more help. One is that since 26th September, there had been no update in the following sections of system log viewer: messages, user.log, debug, demon.log. The last line in messages log sections (as on 26th Sept) reads: "kernel logging (proc) stopped". Actually this is normal as the last messages log line at the time of closing computer but it is started again next time the computer is switched on. I rely on this log section to look for audit messages if any generated by apparmor. Since there is no update of messages log, I do not know how to look for apparmor messages. (There are other useful info available from this section like how long my computer was connected to internet, amount of data transfer etc, and these are also unavailable right now.) However some other sections of log file viewer are showing usual update like in auth.log, kern.log, syslog etc. How can this problem be solved?

The log file /var/log/messages has been deprecated in Ubuntu 11.04

The log file you should be looking at is /var/log/syslog.
