I'm using 10.04 dual booted with windows 7. I wanted to try 12.04 by installing to another drive. After multiple downloads burns and install attempts I gave up. Now xserver will not start in 10.04 and I'm unable to boot into even a live session. But the windows partition works fine.

ASUS M2N68-AM SE2
AMD ATHLON 2 X2 2.9 gHZ Dual core
2 GB memory

This is what I've done so far

Looks like something is wrong with the kernel/nouveau module. Can you boot into a different kernel, or install and boot into a different one?

I usually get rid of old kernels as soon as the new one is installed

May want to try installing an older one? If no different, that's an easy fix.
