Hello,

Everything is in the title :)

I read other threads and could see that people provide the result of this boot infoscript

So there is mine:
Thank you in advance for your help :)

I would give boot repair a try you can get it from here.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair
The instructions on running it are on the same page.
good luck

You didn't mention what exactly is going on. XP doesn't boot is too general.

The results look fine, so you can try boot-repair but it might not help.

How did you install, did you use the Install Along side windows option and used the slider to split the disk between XP and ubuntu? If you did, this process can sometimes corrupt XP since windows can make an issue when the system partition is resized by other tools.

The best way is to shrink the XP partition first, reboot few times so it can run disk checks, and only then install ubuntu into the unallocated space left by the shrinking.

If you have a XP cd you can try booting with it, opening the Recovery Console and doing a chkdsk on the XP partition. Something like:
chkdsk /r c:

Hi,

Thank you for your answers.

I had XP already on my computer. I created a bootable usb key with ubuntu on it, changed the bios to boot on it, then restarted my computer and installed ubuntu from the usb key.

The installer showed me the partition it wanted to create, I made it bigger (there was enough space for that but is it possible some critical files of XP were deleted in the process?)

Since then I have the boot menu with ubuntu and xp options, but when I select Xp nothing happens (the boot menu disappears and I can only see a black page (which I usually see because I chose not to display the image of windows XP when it starts), the problem is that even after a long time waiting, nothing change).

I am going to try the link you gave me and see what happens.

Bru

Edit: I dont have cd player on my laptop neither a windows XP cd, so I cant boot with it.

No, no files are deleted usually. But the XP can get corrupted when the ubuntu installer is resizing it.

Sometimes a simple chkdsk can help but you can't run that from linux. See if you can borrow an external usb cd-rom from someone and a XP install or repair cd.
