Just did a clean install of 12.04.1 after many years of using 8.04 LTS. So far I like it, but it is hard to find things. This is a generic install right from the iso.

Question: How can I stop the desktop wallpaper from automatically rotating?

Can't seem to figure this one out...

Go to Appearance. Settings cog in the top right corner. (or right click desktop) In appearance click on the desktop background you want. Sorry, I just realized I'm on Classic, not Unity. my directions are off for your version. But the fix is the same. lol

If you click the first pic in top row, (it has a clock icon in the corner) it will randomly change. If you choose any other it will not change. You can even choose the one with the clock icon if you choose it from the pic without the clock.

Thank you critin - I'll give that a try and see what happens.

I must have selected that first picture inadvertantly the first time around.
