Hello, I am somewhat new to using linux/ubuntu. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with the GNOME desktop and X11. I am having trouble with the trash can and shred command. The trash often won't "look empty" after I remove files from it. Sometimes I use the shred command to remove files, and for some reason it stopped actually removing files, even if I specify a number of iterations and watch it do it's thing like so: shred -n10 -zv suchandsuchafile.something I am wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and can help me understand why it is happening and what I can do to fix it. I was pondering restarting my X11 but I keep my system on for long periods of time and would rather not if at all possible. Thanks
