google currents equivalent ?

as i'm fairly new to ubuntu, i was just wondering is there a sort of google currents type of program/ app for 12.04 it was the app i used the most on my tablet and on my phone

Google currents is only available for smartphones and tablets, but you could run one of the Android development emulators and install it there.

just get an rss aggregator for your newsfeeds. i'm not sure what the latest coolest one is yet but I bet there are a ton of options in the software center.
