Hello,

I was wondering if it would be a wise decision to uninstall Windows 7 64bit to install Ubuntu 64bit?

If so, how would I go about this process?

Welcome to the forums.

Basically no. You may want to consider dual booting first.

As a huge fan of Ubuntu I like to recommend it, but it is not Windows. When using a computer you do not use the operating system but all the various software that it has. Linux has a lot of free software, some works better than the equivalent in Windows, some just about as good (but is different) and some not as good. So it may depend on exactly what software you use.

When still working and needing XP for work, I converted to Firefox, OpenOffice & Thunderbird, so the main applications I used all ran in Ubuntu. But several others like Quicken do not. It took me about 5 years before I stopped booting XP.

Linux is not Windows:

Also you need to download liveCD or USB and test that it works on your system. Also a good way to get used to some of the differences. Just boot into system not install initially. LiveCD will be slower than a full install to a drive but gives a good idea how it works.

I'm currently dual-booting, as you said MOST programs I use are actually neat on Ubuntu rather than on Windows.

My question now is, would games like World of Warcraft run on Ubuntu?

sometimes people get Windows games working under Linux, other times they dont. why bother with the hassle and confusion, just think 'Windows games in Windows'.

Hello,

Probably not ... because you asked about running Windows games -- which don't work well in Linux ... and you said only SOME of the apps work better in Linux.

If you don't NEED to use Windows anymore, then make the switch, but if you need to run Windows games or use Windows apps, then you should keep it around.
