I built a pc myself and currently have no OS on my hardrive and im tring to install ubuntu. I downloaded the latest ubuntu and put it on a dvd disk. But when i boot from my cd/dvd drive i get an error saying reboot or insert media in selected boot device and press any key. but when i press any key the error repeats underneath it.

Welcome to the forums.

If seems like the DVD is not bootable, then it is going to the hard drive and errorring out.

I prefer USB flash drives or CDs, but every system seems to vary. Did you verify download with md5sum. Since it is a new system, did you download the 64bit version, not the suggested 32bit system (really for old computers). The 32bit will work on all but is not best for new computers where 64 bit will not work at all on old computers.

Write image or burn image not copy ISO as one large file to CD.
