Remove/Delete/Move Desktop icon

Ubuntu 12.04. I created a desktop icon named Computer... following a prompt. Now I don't want it on my desktop. It contains 2 items - CD/DVD Drive and File Systems. If I right click on the Computer icon "Move to the Rubbish Bin" is faded out. So maybe I need to move it somewhere specific.
I am new to Linux and don't know if a desktop icon is simply a shortcut or something more.
