Hi everyone,

I have installed 12.04 64bit server about 2 months ago and everything worked fine until a few days ago.

I repeatedly get messages saying there are package upgrades pending but when I try to apply them, it fails.

Here is what I get
1) At login:
Welcome to Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.2.0-29-generic-pae i686)

* Documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com/

System information as of Tue Sep 18 07:28:51 CEST 2012

System load: 0.14 Processes: 123
Usage of /: 8.4% of 446.62GB Users logged in: 0
Memory usage: 25% IP address for eth0: 192.168.0.51
Swap usage: 0%

Graph this data and manage this system at https://landscape.canonical.com/

3 packages can be updated.
0 updates are security updates.

2) when I try to upgrade:
fi11222@ERDSRV00:~$ sudo apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
linux-generic-pae linux-image-generic-pae
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded.

Then, when I log in again, I still get the message about 3 packages needing upgrade. I tried "sudo apt-get clean" and "sudo rm -r /var/lib/apt/lists/*", and of course "sudo apt-get update", but to no avail.

Thanks for your help.
