GIMP needs many plugins and these have always needed to be installed from the repository, How do I load the plugins now.

Open up the Ubuntu software center and type in "gimp" should bring up a lot of plugin and extra packages some of them are gimp-data-extras gimp-resynthesizer gimp-texturize etc...etc...etc...
