Synapic doesn't run

I just installed Ubuntu 11.10; when I run synaptic I get the following error message:
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::out_of_range'
what(): vector::_M_range_check

the synaptic window shows up for a second and then just vanish. any solution?

Open a terminal and enter:

gksudo synaptic

what happens?
