Failed attempts at JRE install

I'm trying to install JRE 7u7 and I've tried literally everything I could find to make it work, but nothing has helped me. I need an expert to help me out with this.

As far as I know, you don't specifically install it. You only unpack the compressed archive on some location, and tell the system to use that java folder.
