As some of you might know, there is this bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/841948) that affects users of ASUS N51 series laptops. I'm currently suffering from it, which means I'm stuck with Ubuntu 10.04, since a more recent upgrade would update the kernel as well and leave the installation unusable.
I learnt that the hard way: I currently have an unusable Xubuntu 12.04 installed on my ASUS from the CD.
So, I was thinking. What if I go back to 10.04, which works just fine, upgrade it to 12.04 from the update manager and then, in the GRUB, I choose the Ubuntu version with the oldest kernel? Is that possible? Will that work?
Thanks in advance (and excuse my English! It's not good for technical stuff)
