Gnome Shell + Compiz Effects

Is compiz disabled in Gnome Shell? I've tried setting wobbly windows, cube etc. but nothing happens.

Gnome Shell need Mutter as its window manager. You can't another window manager like Compiz with Gnome Shell.

I've just googled Mutter and it seems to be quite a basic window manager and would not be capable of any fancy compiz-style effects like burning windows, cube etc. am I right?

Yes. maybe some effects can be added using shell extensions, but I'm not sure about that (I'm not using Gnome Shell).

Thanks for the info. I think I'll just give up on the idea of fancy effects and just switch to Unity if I want to wobble a window or spin a cube every now and then :)
