I still have the fresh install sources.list. Just curious what other users were using.

I've simplified the default and split out any respository beyond those enabled by the stock list into /etc/apt/sources.list.d. So this is what I have for /etc/apt/sources.list:

# Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Canonical Ltd. Support)
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper main restricted
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper main restricted

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-updates main restricted
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-updates main restricted

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security main restricted
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security main restricted

In /etc/apt/sources.list.d, I have the following files:

cbell@demeter:/etc/apt/sources.list.d$ ls
freenx.list plf.list.disabled
multiverse.list.disabled universe.list.disabled
cbell@demeter:/etc/apt/sources.list.d$

These files contain the following:

***freenx.list***

# Seveas mirror for the freenx software. For more information on Seveas and
# freenx, please refer to the following information:
#
# https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreeNX and
# https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SeveasPackages
#
# The homepage for the Seveas project is:
#
# http://seveas.ubuntulinux.nl/
#
# To install gpg keys for this repository, run the following commands:
#
# $ gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv-keys 1135D466
# $ gpg --export --armor 1135D466 | sudo apt-key add -
#

deb http://mirror2.ubuntulinux.nl/ dapper-seveas freenx
deb-src http://mirror2.ubuntulinux.nl/ dapper-seveas freenx

***multiverse.list.disabled***

# Ubuntu Multiverse (Community Support)
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper multiverse
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper multiverse

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-updates multiverse
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-updates multiverse

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security multiverse
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security multiverse

***plf.list.disabled***

# Penguin Liberation Front Repository
#
# PLF is a packaging project dedicated to distributing software that
# cannot be included in Linux distributions for various reasons:
#
# * software patents, prohibiting the use of abtract algorithms
# regardless of implementation
#
# * corporate interest protection laws, such as DMCA in USA, and EUCD
# soon in Europa
#
# * privacy restriction laws, such as strong cryptography prohibition
# in many countries
#
# A lot of excellent free software falls under one of these different
# threats, and thus becomes illegal in various parts of the world. This
# actually restricts their distribution worlwide, making their use at
# least impractical, if not impossible, unless for experts. We don't
# resign to this situation however, and we provide first-class packages
# for all these endangered software. Wherever you are, there is always a
# PLF mirror near.

# The homepage of this repository can be found at http://plf.zarb.org/

deb http://packages.freecontrib.org/ubuntu/plf dapper free non-free
deb-src http://packages.freecontrib.org/ubuntu/plf dapper free non-free

***universe.list.disabled***

# Ubuntu Universe (Community Support)
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper universe
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper universe

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-updates universe
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-updates universe

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security universe
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security universe

Since the files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d are only read if they end in the .list extention, I can easily enable and disable non-default repositories by renaming the files.

Sure, it's perhap a bit anal, but it seems more elegant to me than what comes with the system. :)
