Ok bear with me, I'm no new user to Ubuntu but I have an install problem to work around. I got this new laptop but it has no hard drive. Instead I have a USB hard drive to use. Now here's the issue, the Winblows computer I have access to has no burner in it, and I have no other USB drive to put the install CD on. So how to do this. Can I set the new hard drive to boot as if it's a CD and install on that drive too? I've had it to boot from USB but install on a different drive before. Or is it possible to run the install within Winblows and install it to the USB. Keep in mind the USB will be going to a completely different system. Drivers will have to be changed ect.

I think you can install unetbootin for windows to install linux on a USB. Not sure though.

I know there is a way to install the iso directly, but i forgot how. I'll post back if i find it.

EDIT:
this isn;t the one i used but it looks to be similar:

That's pretty, well not straight forward, but can figure it out. I'm just not sure about putting GRUB on the computer since it'll still be a single boot system when I'm done.

Does the PC have any camera card slots that you can use?

Also with UNetBootin you can tell it to install Ubuntu to a hard drive, but that will only install it as if it were a live CD.

I found another way, seems a lot easier. Maybe it'll help somebody else.

If you have Windows on it you can use the Windows installer...
