I found a pretty interesting short documentary from Good Magazine:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC_T9ePzANg

One of the main points is the capacity that modern technology can have in "updating" outdated methods for education. The internet in particular means that there's a wealth of knowledge now available "on demand", so perhaps focus should move from teaching a little bit of everything, to teaching basic internet research skills, in a "give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish..." type way.

What are your thoughts on the future of education?

- And as a side note, can anybody recommend any songs to me that are similar to the one from the opening of the documentary? :)

Interesting documentary!

I do think the education is totally outdated.
I never enjoyed having to learn phylosophy when I was taking my programming course in college.
Even worse than that, the phylosophy class didn't teach us to think. It was more a history class about past philosophers.

Have kids learn what they would like to learn.
Everybody knows we learn better when it's something that interests us.
