Notifications in lubuntu 12.04

Why isn't there an option for notifications to autoclear in lubuntu?

Example: Email notifications that appear when Thunderbird receives a message which persist even after you've read the message.

Not sure if you can fix Lubuntu's notification system, but this tutorial suggests to use XFCE's notification system instead:
