Hello guys, well after sitting around i was thinking ,
(like most great ideas i was drinking beer, good ol' guiness beer yum :P )
Why dont we have a spreadubuntu page? firefox has one and look what it did for them! Even ie has one geez. So i have extra space on my server cluster and wanted to do more for ubuntu than fix bugs, i want to promote it! I have already emailed the trademarks department to get permission to use the ubuntu and its logo aswell as get the domain which i thought to call: goubuntu . Why? well we want users to go with buntu, and we are also saying yay go ubuntu! So i was looking for your imput and ideas, i plan to have this funded by me and mephis (my company) and get some ads out there on the big sites, we can also use donations to further get it out there with ads and such. I also want the website to work with the ubuntu mail project that is underway. so i say whynot i got the space and the time! Now i was thinking the colors should be blue and orange. And i think the logo should be clouds you can see a preview at http://www.mephis.us/goubuntu/ well thats about it. I will plan this more and go over it on paper. Im looking for people to help me design and work on this project if you would like to help you can email me at stromham@mephis.us .

I don't think we really need one. Isn't http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop good enough? Ubuntu already has a reputation for being the easiest to use of the desktop distros and the site I posted above isn't too shabby either.

BWF89

I've never used IRC, and jabber doesn't seem to be working. How can I join the iRC chat?
1. Download http://jircii.hick.org/cgi-bin/jirc.cgi?ACTION=VIEW&PAGE=Download
2. Install and open it up
3. Click on the lighting bolt symbol in the upper left hand corner
4. On menu hold your mouse over Connect
5. Click on "Server"
6. Look for freenode on the list of servers
7. Connect to freenode and click the 4th icon on the bar of icons at the top. It looks like a globe siting on a newspaper
8. When all the channels come up do a search for #Ubuntu and double click on it

jIRCii is good and it'll find the more popular of IRC networks on it but it doens't automatically connect to IRC if you click on a link in your web browser and they haven't updated it in forever so it makes me wonder if its an abondoned project. Most people on the forums will tell you to use XChat which is probably better but all I've used is jIRCii so I can give you exact instructions on how to use it, not with XChat. Also, the j in the name stands for Java so you've gotta have that installed.

EDIT: Or you could just do what Stromham posted while I was still typing out

just a thought...
in terms on mascot name (african terms)

king dam, koning
lion leeu

i kinda like leeu

i just used this english to african translator...

Imbube is one of the Zulu words for "lion." "Mbube" is addressing the lion, calling to him. Sort of pronounced like: mboo'-bay

I made a banner:
http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/630/gu2qd.png
I used a paw instead of a lion because i thought having a detailed picture of a lion integrated with the simple ubuntu logo looked strange. A paw signifies a young lion, meaning a new ubunutu user. Just a thought. I could make it better if you like the design idea. I didnt have a font that looked like the ubuntu one but i could find one and clean up the logo a bit. Eh whatever you guys go with is fine
