One offtopic question. In the upper right corner I see temperature. Which applet is that?

Hi and thanks. It was ultimately very simple to get the shadowing as per my original screen shot. Make sure you have the Compiz settings manager installed and rather than talking you through, here's another screen capture of the Windows settings page and just adjust the off sets X and Y for both active and inactive windows.
