Mainboard is an intel dq77kb with ivy bridge i5 processor. Legacy usb is enabled in bios. Keyboard is recognised by bios and grub bootloader. Mainboard has only hdmi and usb, no ps/2.
Installation is via usb created by unetbootin.
When kernel loads to install os, keyboard fails on first prompt. Replugging keyboard has no effect. Problem persists across ubuntu, xubuntu both server, desktop, 386 and x64 variants.
Live cd will work but fails after installing to hd.
An installation of an old ubuntu 11.04 works fine, but I want a clean xubuntu/lubuntu install.
Other linux variants such as centos 6.3 will work with keyboard.
Curious if there is a kernel driver required for usb keyboards to work properly?
Any ideas?

update:
After a fair bit of testing and reading, I've confirmed that the last variant to work on this mainboard is 11.04,desktop,i386 ubuntu. All others display the same problem.
My guess is that I am going to need a kernel with usb-hid enabled as this mainboard has no ps2 connector.
As this system is intended as a test system for kvm and virtual box, I am going to redirect my efforts to centos which has its own issues.
Hopefully, the next release will have the necessary updates.
