Hi, I am having an issue where I used the upgrade manager to run upgrades for my installation. now all I have is a black screen with varing shaded blocks and the word UBUNTU in the senter in grey.

can not load past it. when i run repair all I get is the same thing but no UBUNTU word, just all block of different shades of grey.

i can run live disk but if i try to reinstall i am afraid i will ruin one of my other partitions.

I am running rEFIt on a mac book pro with OS x, and win 7, and ubuntu 10.04.

any ideas how i can get past this?

pbhound;

As you can not get to a command line prompt I doubt booting with an earlier kernel would be of any resolution, so....how 'bout booting up a Live CD (hold down **** key)and trying the fix a broken system option on the live CD?
