Hello,

Apologies if this is in the wrong section. Regarding the Kubuntu updates ppa (ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa) and the backports ppa (ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports), what exactly are the differences between the two?

If I am going to enable the backports repo, is it also necessary to install the updates repo?

What version are you running?

Updates are important security updates and bug fixes:

while backports contain newer versions of programs:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports

You might notice the warning in the beginning of the article.

Sorry, i'm running 12.04.

On the Kubuntu PPA launchpad, under the Updates PPA it states

"You can update your system with unsupported packages from this untrusted PPA by adding ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa to your system's Software Sources."

If i wanted to add the backports PPA (i would like to upgrade to KDE 4.9, and its description states the same as above), should i also add the updates PPA?
