The Verge has a fun little thread going on related to the newest Logo change by Microsoft. It's basically users submitting Metro like logo of other companies.

What if Microsoft's new logo style was applied to other famous brands? (http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/24/3265046/microsoft-logo-style-applied-to-other-brands#112437301)

it is not MS style, it is swiss and it is nice. Hopefully this will catch on from Metro because the current style full of fading and blurry stuff that got overused after windows XP and vista times is truly awful and it is a shame even google is using it.

Jokes aside, I really like the new logo style. It looks pretty cool, and it brings unity and identity to Windows 8.

Agreed, the new logo is great, now if they could only do something about all those pesky viruses. ;)

I'm one of the few who absolutely loved vista's theme and found the colours pleasing to the eye. I can use a dark teal /black UI longer than a bright plain color so I don't really like the logo.

I love Windows 8 except for the fact that metro apps only come from store and cannot be side loaded.

Also MS has designed the desktop on purpose to be irritating so that people switch to metro apps.

For example in the charms, the share button is present but tells you "Nothing can be shared from the desktop" From a UI design perspective just remove the share button then. Its like an indirect way to tell you "If you use metro you can have cool share functions."

Personally I would like a way (even if not default) to use the regular Windows 7 UI and launch metro like OS X Dashboard as an overlay on the desktop.

Also MS wants you to stop using the name "metro".

I think the new Windows 8 logo is trash, and it looks like someone's 4 year old kid came up with it. I guess they needed to save money on ink or something.

And that's right; it's not "Metro" anymore. We don't understand why you all keep calling it that. We never meant to imply that Metro is its name. ;)

Meh I will call it metro anyway as that was the code name for the blasted thing.
In any case I will agree the new logo looks primitive, childish and a 6 year old can do better using MS paint.

I think the new logo is OK. Not a wild departure from the old windows logo. Poor MS these days. They definitely don't seem to behind any innovation as they were in the day. Progress is good when it comes from all fronts -- both good and evil. Suing the crap out of your competitor isn't progress.

I used computers since MSDOS times, and I know enough about MS to know innovation was never their thing.

Never.

They are good at other things though. They know business very well. In fact, I think that with Steve Jobs out, I would not be surprised if within 3 years we suddenly notice that they actually took over the mobile market within 3 years. I wouldn't like it though, but have more of iOS and Android getting distracted with each other and competing only by court and anything can go.

That depends on what you call innovation. They are pretty good at taking other people's ideas and making them a lot better.

I myself am running Windows 8 Consumer preview on my laptop and i love it. The new Metro style icons and user interface is outstanding. It really sets Microsoft/Windows out from the rest. I did like Aero in vista and 7 but it eventually wore out. Because it wasn't anything new. MS were just trying to catch up with times like Mac and Linux. Because XP was starting to look crap compared to Mac Os X and Linux. But with the new Metro UI i really am happy to see a new WIndows OS.

Bah truth be told as much as I am mixed about unity for not being as customizable as the old interface i rather use that then something with a bunch of random squares all over the place.
