The icon for Nautilus on my Ubuntu 12.04 system with the Software Center version of Gnome installed has such an awful icon that I'm embarrassed to have it on my desktop. It's fuzzy, lumpy, looks "cut out".

How do I fix this - substitute another icon, replace the icon on my system, or ???

And how to accomplish whatever is recommended...

Thanks!

OK, I figured it out.

1) Open Properties for that desktop icon
2) Search in Google for a Nautilus icon
3) Copy it and drop it into Gimp
4) Save it as a .png
5) Select the existing trashed icon on the properties window, and shout "Geminio" in your best Harry Potter voice.
6) Go to where you saved the icon, select it, and click "Open"
7) Admire the replaced icon, as it should have been in the first place.

You can also try the following.
sudo apt-get install alacarte
Open the main menu and select accessories on the left pane and click on the line that files appears to open properties. When properties is open select the icon picture on the left and navigate to the folder where the replacement icon is stored and select open.
