I have, in the past, had all kind of problems upgrading from one release to the next. And have pretty "vocal" about the troubles.
HOWEVER, I just upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04 and it worked wonderfully! As some articles have said, virtually nothing changed and I use Gnome Classic.
The only thing I've found so far is the need to use Super-Alt-RightClick to access the Add/Remove menu for Gnome Panels.
For general info, mine is an older ASUS P5N-E SLI mobo, Q6700 Quad-Core, 8GB of RAM, and an Nvidia 9600GT dual-DVI video card.
:guitar: So major kudos to the Ubuntu Team for assembling a pain-free upgrade! Thank you! It's really great to see Ubuntu maturing so nicely.
