"Make Link" of file to Desktop from Thumb Drive/SD Card

Trying to create a link to a file on either a Thumb Drive or SD Card and move it to the Desktop.
Appears not to be working. I am using "Make Link" under Nautilus via Right Mouse Button. See attached file.

Any suggestions on how to set it up?

To create a link to the file, hold down the Ctrl+shift keys while dragging to your desktop.
To get a dialogue popup to choose whether to move,copy or link, drag and drop with the middle mouse button.
