View Full Version : [ubuntu] 12.04 on mac: unable to find GRUB and to load Super Grub 2 Disk

Hi everybody,

I am experiencing problem in installing ubuntu 12.04 on my Macbook Pro 8.1 13'' (early 2011).

I was following this guide http://www.rodsbooks.com/ubuntu-efi/index.html provided by the developer of rEFInd to install Ubuntu, and everything went pretty well until I had to instert the Super Grub Disk (fixing the installation - Step 13).
Problem is that rEFIind doesn't recognize the SG2 Disk at all, it is not loaded into the boot options so I cannot "assign" the Grub to the proper partition and everytime i Try to boot from the SG2 disk BEFORE the rEFInd starts (pressing the ALT key on startup), and the disk boots (sometimes it doesn't at all), then Grub installation is not found on my computer.

Also, when I try to boot into my linux partition I got this message:

ERROR: Invalid Arch Indipendent ELF magic
Then Grub Rescue Starts.

I may have found a solution to this problem here: http://www.rodsbooks.com/ubuntu-efi/index.html but my partition scheme is quit different: I followed the rEFInd guide an noew I got a
/boot partition and a
/ root partition and I don't know in which partition to do these operations (I suppose is /boot tough) or if it will eventually screw up my partition scheme again.

Does someone experienced one of these problems already and can help me find out the problem?
