Hi, I need to install Ubuntu on RAID 0 using two WD Raptor 36Gb drives.

I have completed the install procedure for Ubuntu 12.04 64bit Alternate. There were no errors.

However, when I boot after post I get taken into a shell screen rather than a desktop; Also, I can say that before going into shell I know that my USB devices are loading up etc and then I see a black screen with what I can only describe as two horizontal and small-width lines that are just a compilation of scramble-coloured pixels.

Setting up RAID 0 has been quite the challenge so far because almost every alternate image has had an issue.

I have searched for this problem too, but I am really stuck. And I do not want Windows on this system.

Thanks.

====
EDIT1: startx - this does not do anything
EDIT2: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop : currently running this, even though I selected it from the options on the Alternate CD. I'll update after this is finished.
EDIT3: Solved. Alternate just installs the bare minimum. I needed to then install the ubuntu-desktop package and then when I ran startx, it was fine.
