I've been going to school for almost a year now to get my A+ and Network+ certifications, but being a Linux fan I'm curious as to what certifications are out there that deal specifically with Linux. I know CompTIA (the same guys who give out the A+ and NET+ certs) has a Linux+ certification, but what else is there and does anyone have any Linux-related certifications? Has it helped anyone's career advancement?

Practically all government servers run Redhat, so if you want a cert AND a job:

Working with servers is the technology field I think I want to go into. Red Hat would be the way to go, then? Does anyone know anything about Novell certifications? I know they have a lot to do with Linux.

This may be out of topic, why government uses RedHat?

...because Redhat provides support staff. That is what Redhat does to make money. Making a Linux distro is kinda secondary.

Most private or government organisations will go for a product with commercial support backup. It's just the way it is and red hat is the industry leader.

If you wanna go the red hat route you can play with centos.
