Currently using 11.10 with Gnome Classic.

Does the update to 12.04

- force Unity and kills my Gnome Classic?
- do all my system monitor, launcher icons etc... disappear?

Thanks!

Since that is a package installed from the repository, if you upgrade (not clean install) I would expect the package to still be there.

But I haven't tried it, so you might wanna wait for another opinion. And do a full backup of all important data before the upgrade in any case. They do go wrong sometimes.

Why don't you create another account, login and install Ubuntu? After a reboot, it is most possibly going to show you the list of environments with each account name's upper right corner (clicking there opens the list). Consider using lightdm as login screen manager.

Thanks for your answers.
Actually I did the upgrade, and Gnome + my config are still here and working. Great!
