Any help welcome please.
My system after normal update will not boot.I can only get to the purple screen and running dots.Computer does not read disks and I can only use the command line right at the beginning during boot setup.
I know 10.10 is outdated but did not upgrade as every upgrade just like now is at some stage a disaster.I need to access information on my hard disk urgently for a court case and must boot.
I can only correspond from my windows machine like now.
Urgent help needed please

Have you tried booting with a livecd or liveusb?

I assume that these important things you need aren't backed up anywhere?

1) Using your working Windows machine download something that can boot from CD and mout ext partitions, like for example: http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/ubuntu-10.04.4-desktop-i386.iso

2) Burn the ISO in your Windows machine, using for example Imgburn: http://www.imgburn.com/

3) Boot your faulty PC with it ("Try without install" option), save the super-urgent documents to a Pendrive.
