View Full Version : [ubuntu] UI freezing with misbehaving programs

I have a fairly recent install of Ubuntu, and I sometimes have the problem of the UI freezing up -- or almost -- move the mouse back and forth and a minute or two later the cursor jumps on the screen.

This happens with different programs, like NetBeans, and when I have too many windows and browsers open.

I can't even close the programs to free up resources -- I have to power down the machine.

Isn't there some system setting to adjust to prevent that from happening? Increasing the runtime priority of the UI or something?

I've searched a few times, but this seems not to be a common problem for other users.

Thanks

Open System Monitor and see what is happening.
Some process may be misbehaving

If you are able to move the mouse and it reacts, however slowly, why are you not able to close programs? Is the desktop not responding to mouse clicks or keyboard input? What are your hardware specs?
