We had a cartton series which was short in episode length and used like a filler between programs. It was about an inspector that followed clues and then announced the culprit at the end.

The animation style was very simple in the lines of Snidely Whiplash etc. I recall the shape of the guys upper body was like halve an egg or a bell and he had very thin legs.

Thing is the animation was dubbed into a local language so I doubt translating the name into english would help but it was essentially called "The Inspector" and the puch line at the end when he reveals the crimal was something along the lines of "The guilty is thus..."

An no it's not "The Inspector (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Inspector)" with

Inspector Clouseau is the only think I could think of, but you already ruined that idea. :)

Are you sure it wasn't something that was local to your area?

I doubt it as we did not do much in terms of animation stuff, majority of our stuff was imported and dubbed. Our local puppet productions for tv were awesome though, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEfzLTJ01fY http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interster

Nope, that's not it. The style was much simpler.

You should put the name in your language and do an image search.

That's one of the first things I tried but the name is very common and used in everyday media. I found nothing.

Name: Die Inspekteur (English: The Inspector)

Catch phrase: Die skuldige is dus... (English: The guilty is thus...)

It's not The Inspector (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Inspector) though although translated the name is the same.

It's so obscure I can't even find a video of it on the net. Not many pictures either.

Was in the mid/late 80's. Was usually a filler between programs as it was only about 3mins in length. Maybe you are to young

I don't think we had it in the U.S.

I was in Jr. High & High School at that time. I probably would have seen it if we had it here.

I think not found is from my neck of the woods so his age might play a role.
