I'm building a new computer, and was wondering what Z77 or X79 board was good. Preferably under $150.

Any help is appreciated!

P.S, mods, of you feel like this should be moved, please move it.

People have been talking about ASRock offering good value for money when it comes to performance/features/specs vs price compare to the likes of Asus, Gigabyte etc.

Is it reliable?

Is it reliable?

I have no experience with ASRock. I'm a Gigabyte kinda person.

Maybe go read up on other peoples experiences wrt ASRock. From what I have heard is that they have improved a lot since yonks ago.

On second though if reliability is a big concern in the back of your mind then I would say buy a Gigabyte board.

I may go with this (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z77M_PRO/) one.

We get a lot of posts about laptops with dual graphics not working. Not seen a motherboard with dual graphics.

Some info on Linux compatible motherboards.

I'm pretty much fine with the P8Z77-M Pro from Asus, but I may go for AsRock.

AsRock and ASUS are VERY VERY similar boards (almost too similar). My ASUS Maximus V Gene runs great and I love it. z77

I ended up getting the P8Z77-M Pro over the Z77 Extreme4, they were both the same price, and Asus has had a better rep. Thanks for all of your input.

Anyways, the Asus one was more worth it, it had slightly more features, and had the Asus general features behind it. Just gotta get a CPU and hopefully a Graphics card.

last i checked asus offers no linux support
does not stop there boards from booting linux though, but if you want to flash your bios from the os you have to use windows unless you will chance that going wrong in wine

Thanks, will be going for an i7 3770K, and maybe an NVIDIA GeForce 640 GT (from EVGA).

Dunno what you will be using the PC for but if it's gaming have a look at the GTX670. There is also a GTX660 on it's way a bit later at a cheaper price but supposedly still offering good performance.
