Okay guys I am struggling with my current laptop it's a massive powerhouse but it has the type of nvidia Optimus that doesn't even work with the bumblebee project so i cannot use it at all :(

So can anyone find me a decent laptop for around £500 with nvidia graphics but not Optimus?

have you looked at system 76 Here (https://www.system76.com/laptops/) or Zareason here (http://zareason.com/shop/Laptops/)?
Good Luck and let us know what you finally decide upon :)

System76 don't have laptops with nvidia graphics and i'm in the UK so need a UK based site.

The main thing is i want a dedicated nvidia chip. Since my current one might not ever work as it's Optimus.

They will ship to the UK, but between the exchange rate and shipping costs it's a pretty expensive way to buy a laptop.

this was one of the reasons for the nvidia F-bomb from Linus.

meanwhile, there are some Intel/AMD hybrids that work well and are officially supported.

but since you have your eyes on nvidia, the only way to get some satisfaction is to join Linus. :-)

Just recently someone inquired (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2022613) about three computers, two of which had NVIDIA cards. At first glance it looked like the ASUS N56VZ (NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M) in that list had only the NVIDIA card and not Optimus. That's a bit outside your price range, so here's a list of other ASUS options (https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awww.asus.com+notebook+nvidia+-optimus) to browse.

It has a 660M GTX :P

I have a Dell e6420 laptop with an nVIDIA/Intel Optimus option. I just turn off the Optimus option in the BIOS and run the nVIDIA driver the whole way - then it's as if I only have a nVIDIA chipset.

Why won't you get an Optimus laptop and disable dynamic switching? Or get something with Trinity- no offence but with that rather limited budget you may forgot about workstation-like laptops anyway; so less-but-still-enough-powerful amd's apus should be enough. And you have a better chance for making them work with linux that with Optimus :)

It is not so easy to find an Optimus laptop that gives you the option to disable Optimus. I read that even system 76 no longer offers laptop with Nvidia cards because the newer generation of Optimus is MUXless and they can't make an option to disable it even if they want to.

I know that the Lenovo laptops retain the BIOS Option:

This, check my signature, that is exactly what I do, and have nVidia in my PPA so I always have the current linux driver, works like a CHAMP!
