1. No, I don't think so.

2. Yes, temporarily (or permanently if you edit the desktop file), although obviously not encouraged.

Telling us what you're trying to do would be more productive, so we can tell you the 'unity way' of doing things.

well as a personal project, i was thinking of having a large list of bookmarks accessible from the the launcher, perhaps launching a group at one time even.

would it make more sense to add menu in the application panel?

What sort of bookmarks?

Either is fine. I think as long as you add functionality from other apps' quicklists, that's fine, but don't remove it.

Read through the examples and post back if you have problems. :)
