I wish to install Ubuntu 12.04 and would like to know whether the Cinnamon DE works well with it or causes errors? Kindly let me know. Kind regards :)

I suspect it will work even better with Mint (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2023277).

It works well in my experience...

Although I prefer gnome-shell...

I have them both installed.

What is gnome shell? Is it something to make Ubuntu DE look like Gnome 2? Kindly inform.:)

Gnome Shell is the new desktop environment for GNOME 3, it and Unity have many similarities and it is pretty far away from your standard GNOME 2 interface.

Gnome-shell is the new default Gnome - its Gnome 3

IMO i would not recommend Cinnamon ATM. There are still problems with graphics card currently, just wait until those get fixed. :D

it does work best with mint. Mint 12 and cinnamon works prefectly on most lap tops and desk tops. There are no problems with that combination. !2.04 ubuntu and mint 13 cinnamon both have been locking up on some computers so to avoid that problem use mint 12 and cinnamon combination

For some reason I found Cinnamon was troublesome on Ubuntu 12.04, but was (mostly) fine on Mint. Dunno why.

I'm on KDE now anyway. Much better imho.

Install it and try it out. I used it with 11.10 and it was a bit sluggish compared to gnome shell but it was otherwise fine.

Same experience as drawkcab on Ubuntu 12.04: I liked it, but it was a little slow (but then with my specs... Intel Celeron 900/2GB RAM, maybe not a surprise...)

I've had Firefox lock up on Mint Maya to the extent that <Alt>+<SysRq>+k had no effect. When I installed Cinnamon on 12.04 via the ppa, I chose not to install muffin. I haven't used Cinnamon much on 12.04 but have had no issues with it. My video card is an Nvidia 8400GS if it matters.

If you wouldn't mind a mac-like dock on the bottom of your screen that autohides, but provides closer functionality to what you are use to with a more conventional desktop then unity, install Cairo-Dock and select that session from the log in screen that will be created when you do...

That's how i use my ubuntu 12.04...in cairo dock session w/unity panel (the top panel "global menu") it's AWESOME to use :D

As others have said gnome shell is quite different than gnome 2. While there are other options this is my preferred method of getting a classic look and feel in 12.04:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1966370

The one huge caveat is that it only seems to work really well with the Gnome classic (no effects) session which uses the Metacity window manager.

The standard Gnome classic session uses the Compiz window manager which provides a wide array of compositing effects but it doesn't seem to work at all well in a classic session from what I've seen.

My cheap HP laptop has a wierd flicker problem when the panel auto-hides or I bring it back. Video just goes crazy for half a second. When it's non-hidden, it works fine. Cinnamon in Mint 13 works perfectly. I need a menu because I can never remember the names of apps or what I've got installed.

I run Cinnamon with Mint Maya with no issues whatsoever...
