When I try to view the BBC website I get the following message:

"Error 500 - Internal Error
This might be because:

We are experiencing abnormal traffic to our network or
the service or servers it is on is not currently available.

Please try the following options instead:
Try again later once we have solved the problem."

anybody else seeing this, or could something weird be wrong with my router?

Yes, I'm also getting this from a Virgin Media connection.

Edit: https://twitter.com/bbcpress shows the BBC are aware of the problem.

Incidentally, this is a good website for these situations:
