Hi, I have a toshiba satellite a205-01p009 and im trying to install ubuntu 12.04 through a live cd. On my HP i previously installed Ubuntu, it automatically installed. The toshiba dosent do that though, even if i choose to boot from my cd/dvd drive. When i choose that option all i get is this: _ blinking (the underscore). Any thought on how to get it to install.

Also, i cant install from ubuntu.com because i had to use an old win xp recovery cd to even get an os to operate.

Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

I think you need to add some boot option. Start with nomodeset according to this link
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions)
and if necessary try one or several of the other boot options too.

my biggest problem with said laptop is that the usb ports are crap, and they rarely ever work, but i guess ill have to try....

also, i dont even get to the welcome page, or the one with the little guy at the bottom

If you have a CD drive and a CD install disk, then continue trying to get that running (test Ubuntu running a live session before trying to install). The boot options apply to CD as well as USB drives.

Edit: Maybe you need to press a key (any key) to get to the menu where to add the boot options.

I'm using the same install cd that i used on my HP without any issues. What do you mean to add boot options? I can adjust what the Pc boots from, in order from 1-5

Read the link in post #3. It explains the boot options.
