OK. So I have been trying my native resolution monitor, of 1440x900. It always stretches to standard 1280x720 and I can't see all of the screen. Xrandr says....

My video card is a Nvidia Geforce 210. I am using HDMI to connect my computer to my monitor. I am on 12.04 LTS
