I am attempting to install Ubuntu on my computer.
EVGA P55 SLI mobo
intel I7 860
4 GB ram- yes i know the mobo is dual channel but trying to get this up and running
have tried 2 graphics cards, both nvidia, one a 450, one an old one.
I have tried CD,DVD and USB installs.
All the media works on other computers, just not on this one. The symptoms from the CD/DVD vary from getting all the way to having ubuntu up, to stalling out with various issues.
From the USB I always have the same errors, "clocksource tsc unstable" and that I have "watchdog detected hard LOCKUP on CPU1"

I built this machine for ubuntu, but after having all this trouble I threw XP on it just to be sure everything was working ok. XP runs with no issues. Please help, I'm not even sure where to go next, except to go buy WHS which I didnt really want to do

I guess you should read the Ubuntu installation guide :

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Installation/

Burn a MinimalCD (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD/) , when I have trouble machines, that always works.
