I've grown a bit accustomed to the Cinnamon DE, but there seems to be an issue with running it on Ubuntu (or even Arch from my testing) where any time that you save a setting (For example to hide the battery in the taskbar unless its charging/discharging or screensaver) whenever you exit out of the settings it reverts back to its previous state. Is there any known solution for it?
I would really prefer to start with an Ubuntu minimal install base (for the lack of extra installed applications, as well as the extra features from the newer release such as the hiding the battery icon like noted above) as opposed to using Mint.

This issue also seems to carry over to Gnome 3 when I try to toy around in there...
