View Full Version : [ubuntu] 12.04 won't install on HP Pavilion P6

I've been trying to install 12.04 on our new computer: HP Pavilion P6-2100, with an AMD A4 (64-bit), came with Windows 7 home premium. I tried installing via wubi and by booting from cd-rom, and I've tried the 32-bit and 64-bit versions. I have to keep Window$ (unfortunately), so I'll need to dual-boot. Graphics is AMD radeon HD 6410D, and I have a 1TB hard drive and 8GB of RAM.

No matter how I try to install it, the computer ends up frozen at either a blank screen, or a screen of gibberish that blanks out about every ten seconds for maybe two seconds, then goes back to the gibberish.

I've never not been able to install ubuntu alongside windows before (several different versions of ubuntu on close to 15 different laptops/desktops). Help!

Have you investigated the video card for known issues?

I think the parameter for ATI was something like radeon.modeset=1. You can also try nomodeset but that is usually for nvidia.
