Hello,

Recently I have installed ubuntu 11.10 on an eMachines T2692. The PC was a recycled given to me by a friend along with several other towers, it is the only i was able to get to install ubuntu through a number of problems ranging from horrible performance to an error code in beeps i did not know how to solve. I have only but a few uses for a computer, I mainly use it for news, email, finding a job and playing online games. Online gaming is where my problem is the biggest pain. It will load the game fine but the flash lags on an unbelievably horrible level (about every 5 seconds). I have tried different open source drivers, lowering the quality, and fiddling with compiz config, nothing seems to fix this lag. The computer has an Intel 845G x86/MMX/SSE2 graphics (aka 3D intel extreme graphics agp).

I really do like alot of the interface of the ubuntu environment but it is MUCH MUCH SLOWER than a dell optiplex g110 i had running vista (and that was horrible as it was). Is it normal for there to be an intermittent lag on just using the desktop to browser (no flash) where when scrolling it will suddenly stop moving for a few seconds. Also what can I do to improve the flash performance? I have no job so gaming helps take the mind off the stress and have been playing this game for a few years less the 4 months i went without computer access (so i was looking forward to being able to resume).

I have searched the forums and found little help but do know that you like to have a good idea of what the system info is so attached i have done that to expedite a solution.

Hi, I am using an eMachines T2692 with less RAM than yours (mine is 1GB), and it performs fine with Lubuntu 11.10. Believe or not, it is my main working machine and it's a SugarCRM server for my small company. Flash performs fine too (YouTube videos, etc).

I tried Ubuntu 11.10 once, but the performance wasn't good enough, it made this old machine too slow. When I changed to Lubuntu 11.10, the performance improved a lot.

I have not tried Lubuntu 12.04, but it should run fine too. Old machines like eMachines T2692 work better with OS like Lubuntu or Puppy Linux.

Good luck!
