currently im having problems playing dvds on ubuntu. it plays video files quite fine, but when it comes to dvds it is horrible. it has no play option it only gives me the option to open up the disc and explore the video/audio files(vob etc). and since most of my dvds are protected all the video and audio is broken and artifacted etc. aside from downloading vlc, the restrictred packages, the nvidia drivers, synaptic, and a couple of other programs i havent updated my ubuntu system due to a slow internet connection and havin a family who always want to get online on the other pc's we have here at home. would i need to update ubuntu, or uninstall, then reinstall the restricted packages?

thanks for your help and time

Do you have libdvdcss2 installed?
