I installed 64-bit 12.04 to USB hard drive for now (WD Passport). I get the drum roll before login, but for some reason the usual login sound does not play when the Unity desktop comes up. What is supposed to trigger that?

I have not tampered with any sound settings (other than installing ubuntu-restricted-extras) and all other sounds work fine (using default analog stereo to PC sound system).

/usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/desktop-login.oog exists and is playable.

Nobody knows?

I just installed 64-bit 12.04 to an internal hard drive and same thing, drum roll before login, but no start up sound when desktop comes up (sound is not muted). Where is the start up sound set now (or enabled/disabled)?
